Peppermint Ponies is an
entertaining and educational petting farm owned by Bob and
Kate Babin of Waller, Texas. The Red and white striped tents
will provide a home away from home for their many
hand-raised pets. Babin's unique petting farm provides 20
different species of animals; three clown acts a day
featuring Bart the trained white mule; pony rides; and
picture taking on Ziggy - a Scottish Highlander/Longhorn
Steer. Entrance to the petting farm and clown acts is free to
children of all ages
Gentling animals at his ranch
on Kickapoo Road in Waller, TX, is a natural carryover from
Bob Babin's involvement in the rodeo and fair business
throughout the past 40 years. His love for animals and
enjoyment in entertaining children is a perfect match. Each
animal on the farm is selectively acquired at an early age
and gently hand raised - some bottle-fed.
The typical day on the farm
begins at daybreak with feeding time as Kate Babin calls
each animal by name: Trashcan, the miniature pygmy goat;
Cisco and Poncho, the donkeys; and Porkchop, the potbelly
pig run to Kate to be loved and petted. All the animals know
their names, including the Jacob sheep, LaMancha goats,
Nigerian dwarf goats, a Zebu, Llamas and a variety of other
pets. Each animal is USDA approved and given a special diet
according to species. Mr. Babin consults veterinarians at
Texas A&M concerning proper diet and care of his animals.
The animal pens are set up
to provide a controlled environment to accommodate even the
youngest of children while the little ones touch and feed
the animals. Parents share in the excitement and learn about
the animals along with their children. Signs are posted to
remind children and parents to "wash up" after feeding time.
A hand washing stand, running water, anti-bacterial soap,
paper towels and hand sanitizer are available.
Bart, the educated white
mule, is featured in three clown acts a day. Babin declares
that Bart is smart enough to have a PhD since he knows 22
different commands such as using a teeterboard, balance beam
and standing on a pedestal. As the children enjoy Bart's
antics, Mr. Babin's clown act includes information about his
array of animals and he interacts with the children as they
have fun learning.
To top off the fun, pony
rides are offered. Different sizes and colors of ponies are
ready to be saddled up in Peppermint striped tack. Little
wranglers can choose to ride the pony of their dreams. And,
as a keepsake of the petting farm adventure, children may
have their picture taken on Ziggy, the rare Scottish
Highlander/Longhorn steer or on one of the ponies. There is
a fee for picture taking and pony rides.
Missing the 'call of the
road' from clowning in past rodeo days, Bob Babin finds much
enjoyment in supplying animals nationwide for fairs and
rodeos through his Peppermint Ponies Petting Farm. His wife,
Kate, is understanding and supportive since she also was
involved in rodeo. Their goal is to provide entertainment
and education through discovery learning.
So, give Bob or Kate a call or
drop them an email about how they can make your next
function one that will be enjoyed and remembered by all.
